The Boiling Blue

This is the first (although, not chronologically) of a few photos I took while I was driving across America in June. This was taken in Yellowstone, when we stopped to look at a geyser field. It's amazing how beautiful something so dangerous can be. There was a boardwalk, and the signs said not to stray from it, because the ground in the field could be unstable. Sometimes pockets form underground, and when people walk over them the ground can collapse. The signs also said that the water inside the geysers is so hot and so acidic that it can melt a pair of boots in a matter of moments.

Needless to say, I stayed on the boardwalk.

Through the steam and smell of sulphur I shot this. The inside of the pit was vivid turquoise.
