Consensus

I came across a couple SD cards last night which I assumed had been lost. There was a real treasure trove of photos on them, ranging from as far back as 5 years ago to as recent as last year. I thought I'd share one of those pictures with you now.

This was taken almost a year ago, during the earliest days of the Occupy Vancouver gathering. I went down to the art gallery the weekend it started, just as a curious bystander. I was lucky enough to get there before they'd had their first General Assembly of the day, so I got to see their procedures in action. Considering that the Occupy movement really had its earliest origins right here in Vancouver, it was exciting to watch the movement blossom into a local event finally.

In retrospect, it's sort of disheartening that such an enormous groundswell of public sentiment really didn't yield much in the way of real-world political results. At the time, though, it really was fascinating to watch.
